Primrose class news 2021-2022

May 22

This term in Primrose class our topic title has been ‘Under Construction – Buildings and Homes’. We have enjoyed reading ‘The 3 Little Pigs’ and learning about repeating patterns as well as trying to make their houses from different materials in our sensory art sessions. We have practised using rollers to create a ‘brick’ effect, lollypop sticks for the stick house and string for the straw house.

We have also been reading ‘Goldilocks and the 3 Bears’ and have also been practising our building with blocks in the classroom as well as blocks in the soft play room.

We love mark-making and have been practising this in the dark sensory room as well as in the courtyard and the classroom.

We have also been experimenting with different types of food and sensory play and exploring which foods will stick together well. In this picture we explored with crumbly ‘Oatibix’ and dairy free squirty cream!

We have been so busy but have had so much fun!

This term in Primrose class we have been learning about growing, plants and animals. We have been exploring with different materials in our sensory art sessions, such as stamping with spring onions to create our Mother’s Day cards and stamping with sponges to create our St Patrick’s Day art, as well as adding feathers to chick outlines and using daffodils to create some beautiful pictures.

We have also been exploring curiosity boxes with numbers, different materials, musical instruments and different stuffed animals.

Outside, we have enjoyed mark making, examining numbers to 10 and water play!

We have also loved playing the musical instruments along to nursery rhymes such as ‘Old MacDonald’ and ‘5 sleeping bunnies’

We have been really busy and have had so much fun!

In Primrose class we have been enjoying learning about dinosaurs! We have tried moving to the dinosaur stomp music, exploring various sensory play with plastic dinosaurs and creating footprints and marks in different textures with stamps and our bodies.

We have also really enjoyed learning about the Chinese New Year. We dressed up, practised pouring with some bowls and spoons and were experimenting with chop sticks. We have been really busy and had lots of fun!

December 21

This term we have enjoyed celebrating, learning and exploring colours and Christmas! We have covered a wide range of Art activities, sensory play activities and experiences. The class have especially enjoyed decorating their own Christmas decorations, unwrapping familiar objects in the classroom and playing with snow! We have enjoyed listening and singing along to Christmas songs and exploring Christmas in a sensory environment.

The children have also been working really hard on their communication skills this term, using symbols, PECS and Makaton to learn new vocabulary and communicate their wants and needs. We have also continued to visit a wide range of rooms around school, often completing familiar tasks such as circle time in these rooms.

October 21

In Primrose class we have enjoyed exploring “Marvellous Me and My World”; we have had great fun exploring all of our senses! We have spent time investigating and engaging with different materials, new toys and equipment; such as frozen sensory play and finding buried numbers in sensory materials.

We are having fun actively engaging in our daily “Wake Up Shake Up” routine and parachute games.  We have particularly enjoyed sensory relaxation times when the classroom is transformed into a tranquil darkness with calming music and light sensory toys to explore; often we try out our favourite yoga poses too.

The highlight of this term has been the new Early Years playground and being able to use the swing, spinners and explore the sand.

We have enjoyed the sensory stories “This is me” by Eric Carle and “Monkey Puzzle” by Julia Donaldson; we have actively explored them through song and movement with props and soft toys.

Stacey and Yvonne are really looking forward to teaching next term’s theme “Colours and Christmas” and have lots of exciting ideas!
