Addington School

Admissions

Admissions to Addington School is through the Local Authority SEND team.  Please see our Admissions Policy on our Policies page.

Addington School is for pupils with severe and profound learning difficulties and there is a high demand for places.  Addington School is currently full.

Our aim is to ensure parents and carers are able to make a fully informed choice for their child’s education, based on a longer term view of their educational journey, taking into account many factors, including those that are sometimes missed. These include:

- The importance of pupils accessing and generalising knowledge within their local community, especially from year 9 upwards.

- Travel to and from school and the implications of reducing transport provision on parents' ability to get their child to and from school.

Prospective Parent Visits

Addington School has two sites: our Main Site is in Woodley and our small Early Years Centre in Farley Hill. Our Early Years Centre is for pupils from Foundation Stage 1 to Year 1 or Year 2. Our main site is for pupils from year 2 to year 14 and any pupils below year 2 with exceptionally complex physical or medical needs.

We hold prospective parent meetings for all pupils at our main site in Woodley.  As part of these tours we show videos of the Early Years Centre for parents of the youngest pupils.

The reason all of our prospective parent/carer tours are held at the main site are:

-          All pupils joining either site are part of Addington School and our main site is in Woodley, where the majority of their educational journey will be based

-          Leadership capacity to run tours at the main site is greater

-          Pupils starting at the Early Years Centre will automatically move to the main  site for year 2 or 3 so parents/carers need to:

  • be aware of its location and travel implications for the future
  • be aware of their child’s educational journey after year 1 or 2
  • be aware of the advantages of being educated in their local community, especially as they move through our Preparation for Adulthood Curriculum
