Cognition - Discoverers - 'Six Dinner Sid' Speech and Language Activities

Activity 1 - Six Dinner Sid matching

This is a matching activity which requires the students to match a section of picture from the story with the main picture it is from.

Activity 2 - Six Dinner Sid specific speech and language activity

These activities allow your child to practice their understanding of questions and instructions at the two and three key word level and also their understanding of question words and positional language.

The instructions of what to do are in the document.

Activity 3 - Who and Where Sentences

To begin please work through the powerpoint with your young person.  On each page is the question 'Where is the cat?' at first they may answer simply 'chair' or 'on the chair', if you tap on the boxes entitled who? where? The full sentence will appear so please model saying the full sentence 'The cat is on the chair.' and encourage your young person to do the same.   The powerpoint continues like this with the cat in different places so different positional language needs to be used in the sentence some positional words are harder to understand than others that is ok never be afraid to introduce your young person to new vocabulary.  There is a lot of repetition in the powerpoint which will support your young person's understanding of the language and the question.

Once you have worked through the power point please complete the activity sheet 'Colourful semantics cut up sentences' activity.  This uses the same pictures as the powerpoint and the same where is question.  The sentence they need to build will always start 'The cat' so they cut out that picture and stick it with corresponding question picture then if the cat is on the chair they cut out the picture that shows the cat on the chair and stick this after 'The cat' picture.  The activity continues like this with lots of repetition.  Please model saying the sentences and encouraging your child to say the sentences.
