Welcome to the Addington School Home learning page for Maths and Cognition

There will be Maths activities on the class pages but if you would like some more  then this page will be updated with links, printable resources and practical ideas that you can try at home. 

Lots of pupils are taking part in cooking activities at home which are great for practising maths skills such as weighing and timing. Everyday life is full of Maths and so many everyday tasks can be part of Maths home learning.  Practical activities are a great way to learn skills.  

Depending on the age / ability of your child, play board games (keep the stakes low!)

Lots of Maths can be done outdoors – try setting up races (e.g. potato and spoon), or simple obstacle courses.  Using a timer can be fun - again, keep the stakes low for more harmonious lockdown life. 

Why not try these 2 great Maths websites - lots of interactive games to play!! They are called 'Maths Playground' and 'TopMarks'. The TopMarks link will take you straight to a fun counting activity about gingerbread men.

There are plenty of maths resources on Education City, Discovery Espresso and lots of maths activities on Twinkl (please see our  Home Learning archive page for details of how to login to those websites).

 Doodlemaths

Some pupils have been sent a Doodlemaths login – using this they can access maths learning on the Doodlemaths app or through the Doodlemaths website.  We are able to monitor their progress and set goals if appropriate.  Certificates for engaging with Doodlemaths will be sent out on Fridays. 

There have been one or two issues with the app, most are easily rectifiable, so if necessary please contact Julie by email maths@addington.wokingham.sch.uk

Please bear with us while we develop expertise with this resource!

If you are new to Doodlemaths:

• Firstly, ask your child to login to Doodlemaths (using the free to download Doodlemaths app available on Apple or Android).  Most pupils birthdates have been deliberately set incorrectly - if the app asks you for a birthdate enter 01.04.2015 to start at a really easy level which will quickly adjust if necessary as your child gets questions wrong / right. 
• Click on the purple icon for grown ups.
• Create a parent account and enter your email address.  
• There are webinars for parents on the main Doodle webpage.  https://www.doodlemaths.com/
•  The parent support team at Doodlemaths offer instant chat support - just click on the green icon button bottom right of the Doodlemaths website page. 

Please note that the work on Doodlemaths will automatically get harder the more your child answers questions correctly.  Therefore, if you give too much help to your child on Doodlemaths the questions will quickly become too difficult for them. Please bear this in mind when supporting your child.

Functional Skills Maths  (some pupils in Upper School)

Short videos, links and printable resources will be posted onto Earwig every Monday for pupils who attend Functional Skills lessons (with Julie), though any pupil in Kestrel, Eagle, Robin, Swan and Kite is welcome to have a go.
