Sensory Activity and Craft ideas
Can you create a sensory tray with different materials to explore, which could then be used to make a house collage or make a house structure or model?

This can include items that can easily found or created at home such as:
Ice- to explore igloos and other houses that may be built in cold climates. It is easy to make ice at home, freezing ice cubes using an ice tray, or using any moulds you may have at home to create different ice shapes- you can even add some glitter or food colouring to make it more exciting! Can you make any 3D models or structures with your different shaped ice?
Snow- to continue exploring igloos and other homes that may be built in cold climates. How to make a cotton wool igloo:
What you need:
- Half a paper plate
- White cotton balls
- Glue
- Scissors
- Brown coloured paper/card
- Glitter/ sequins
What to do: Put glue all over the plate to stick on the cotton balls until the plate is completely covered. Then cut a door shape out of the brown paper to stick on the igloo. Finish by sticking on some glitter/ sequins. Have a look at the pictures below for inspiration!
Sticks/ Logs- to explore houses made of sticks or logs, can you collect some sticks from your garden or local park when out for a walk? Alternatively you can use lolly pop sticks or even small wooden blocks if you have any at home. Can you make a house shaped collage using sticks? Or if you have got wooden blocks, a model of house using your blocks?
Straw- to explore houses made of straw can you make a sensory tray using dry spaghetti? If you have pets like rabbits at home, you may even have some actual straw to explore! Can you build a structure using spaghetti, or create a house shaped collage using spaghetti?
Stones- to explore houses made of stones, can you find any stones in your garden, or when out for a walk in your local community? Can you use the stones to make a house collage, or even a house model?
Stilt house- Stilt houses are built on wooden stilts so they are high above the water! Can you use cardboard tubes to help you build a model that is up high above! Try using different items from your recycling at home to explore making different home structures! Can you build a model that will float if you put it on water? What materials ca

Tipi- Have you got any material at home that you could use to build a tipi? You may even want to use the material to build a big den inside! Can you use the material you find to create a tipi picture or model? It may help to use some junk modelling materials to create a base or structure to your tipi up- a cardboard tube from a kitchen or toilet roll may help with this!
